Student Clubs and Organizations
To promote greater student participation in clubs and student government organizations, students are encouraged to join and participate in clubs, student organizations, and other activities of interest. Representative student organizations include Student Government, Cheerleaders, Dorm Council, Health Club, IAAP (International Association of Administrative Personal), FAME (Marketing), Psi Beta (national honor society in psychology), SOTA (Student Occupational Therapy Association), and Student Ambassadors.
Student Government Student Government representatives are elected annually. These representatives select their own officers. The Student Government is responsible for promoting student activities and is a vehicle for communication among students, faculty, and administrators.
Business Professionals of America (BPA): The Briarwood chapter of Business Professionals of America is a student organization designed to prepare college students for the workforce through the advancement of technological, academic, citizenship, and leadership skills. BPA is open to any student who is enrolled an a business, office, travel education course or program. Members attend leadership development seminars, network with business professionals, practice various business skills and attend other BPA sponsored events.
Cheerleaders: The cheerleading team meets regularly to develop and practice routines and performs at Briarwood intercollegiate athletic events.
Dance Team: The Dance Team meets weekly to develop and practice routines and plan performances.
FAME: This club is open to all Marketing and Fashion Merchandising students or those with an interest in these areas. FAME hosts an annual fashion show each spring and coordinates trips to New York City for activities such as meeting with designers, touring the garment district or fashion museums, or attending designers’ exhibits.
Hall Council: The Hall Council seeks to maintain a positive community and assist in efforts to improve campus life.
International Association of Administrative Professional (IAAP) : IAAP’s purpose is to provide information, education and training and to enhance the collective value, image, competence and influence of administrative professionals.
International Club: Open to all students, the purpose of this club is to learn about different cultures, interact with students with common interests, and to organize an annual International Night for the campus community.
Orientation Leaders: Students with leadership ability are selected to be part of a team that works with the Orientation Committee to plan and implement the orientation program for incoming students.
Medical Club: Promotes cohesiveness among the Allied Health students and fosters a feeling of service to one another and the College community. Social activities include potluck dinners, assisting with the bloodmobile, community health screenings, and pinning ceremonies for graduates.
Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society: Beta Nu Xi Chapter Phi Theta Kappa is considered the “official honor society of two-year colleges”. Criteria for membership is a 3.5 G.P.A. Membership in this society signifies academic excellence and opens the door to significant scholarship opportunities.
Resident Assistants: RA’s create and maintain a positive educational community within the residence halls by performing administrative tasks, planning programs, enforcing policies and procedures, and serving as role models and liaisons between students and the College administration.
Student Ambassadors: These students assist the Admission staff with Open Houses, campus tours, and other special events. Regular training sessions focus on presentation skills, teambuilding, and learning about the College programs and services.
Student Government: Members work to establish a positive attitude and college spirit among the students, faculty, and staff. It meets regularly to plan activities, review student issues, and hear suggestions.
Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA): Membership is open to students in the OTA Program. Its aim is to educate the community and network with occupational therapists through activities, fundraising events and support of the national association.
Yearbook Staff: Students serve as photographers, editors, layout persons, and copy writers.
