Briarwood College offers an attractive residential setting for students who want the experience of living within a college community. The goals of residential life are:
  • To establish a positive community in which all students respect the needs of those with whom they live.
  • To develop an inclusive atmosphere of understanding and appreciation of individual differences.
  • To provide a safe and secure living environment.
  • To encourage positive academic achievement by providing an atmosphere conducive to sleep and study.
  • To foster education and individual development outside the classroom in terms of respect for others.
  • To provide communication, to develop social skills, and to develop leadership opportunities.
Apartment Living

Briarwood students are housed in two on-campus residences. Campus housing is available to full-time students 25 and younger during the fall and spring semesters only.

Eder Hall, the College's on campus townhouse apartment complex, includes 20 apartments. Each apartment comes with its own full-sized kitchen and furnished living room on the first floor as well as a bath/shower and 3 bedrooms on the second floor. Six students regularly share each townhouse. Cable, telephone, and internet access are available in each bedroom.

Eder Hall also houses laundry facilities, a student lounge with computers for student use, the Student Center, and the offices of Health and Wellness Services, Career Services, Disability Services, and the Dean of Student Life.

Palmisano Hall

Palmisano, which opened in January, 2004, provides 6 spacious, air-conditioned apartments for residential on-campus living. Each apartment contains a full-sized kitchen and furnished living room, as well as two showers, a sink area, and 5 bedrooms. Nine students regularly share each apartment. Cable, telephone, and internet access as well as a washer and dryer are available in each apartment.

Due to increased demand, some students are housed in a comfortable, air-conditioned apartment complex in New Britain, CT. Briarwood provides van service to take the students to and from the apartments to the campus.

Residence Life Staff

Each residence hall is staffed with specially trained Resident Assistants (RA's) and Assistant RA's who assist the Dean of Student Life in maintaining a safe, comfortable living environment for all resident students.

RA's are trained to
  • Respond to medical or other emergencies
  • Monitor the residence halls for cleanliness and noise
  • Provide social and educational activities and promote understanding and cooperation among residents
  • Cooperate with Security staff in maintaining the safety of all students living on campus
Frequently Asked Questions Concerning Residence Life

What do students need to bring when they move in?

You will need:
  • Bed linens, curtains, and towels
  • Dishware, silverware, pots and pans
  • Alarm clock, hair dryer and other personal items
  • Kitchen supplies such as paper towels, cleaners, etc.
Optional:
  • Stereos, television sets, microwave ovens, computers
Students moving into the residence halls for the fall semester will receive their housing assignment in August. You will then be able to communicate with those who will be sharing your apartment or townhouse about what each one is bringing.

Will my friends be able to visit?

Yes. Visitors must sign in at the guardhouse, leave a photo ID (preferably a driver's license), and be at least 18 years of age. The ID may be picked up from security upon departure from the campus. Students are allowed one overnight guest per person in each room. On week-nights the curfew is 1:00 am. There is no curfew on weekends.

Are freshmen allowed to have cars on campus?

Yes. All students are allowed to have cars on campus. Ample free parking is available.

What determines my residence hall assignment?

Students are sent a housing application form when they pay their housing deposits. The Dean of Student Life assigns housing for incoming students in July and attempts to honor student preference based on the date of the deposit.

What eating facilities are available on campus?

Most resident students prepare their own food and eat in their apartment kitchens. There is a campus café with vending machines in Founders Hall.
