In order to receive financial aid, both full time and part time students must maintain satisfactory academic standing at the College. The Department of Education has stated that a student must be "maintaining satisfactory progress in the course of study he/she is pursuing according to the standards and practices of the institution at which the student is in attendance."
  • A student must have a cumulative grade point average at the end of the semester that is above 2.0. Failure to maintain this index could make you ineligible for financial aid.
  • Students enrolled in a program of study will have academic progress measured after each semester.
  • Full-time students must complete at least 9 credits per semester. Part-time students must complete at least 6 credits per semester.
  • Student Financial Aid is limited to 150% of the length of the normal program.
If you do not maintain satisfactory academic progress and/or are not in good academic standing, the Financial Aid Office will issue to you a letter detailing responsibilities and the steps required to reestablish your status and eligibility to receive financial aid. A copy of this letter is available upon request from the Financial Aid Office.

If your cumulative grade point average and/or credits earned are brought up to a satisfactory level during the next semester, you may reapply for financial aid. (Cumulative grade point average will be calculated after a grade for an incomplete course is established; non-credit remedial courses or repeated courses may be considered.)

Extenuating circumstances as judged by the Financial Aid Director may alter the progress you are making. Exceptions to this policy may be noted due to circumstances such as death, illness, pregnancy, etc.

Additional Standards – Please note:
  • AUDITED courses are ineligible for financial aid funding and do not count toward the total number of earned credit hours for that semester; however, they DO count toward your maximum cumulative credit hours.
  • CLEP or CHALLENGE credits are not eligible for financial aid funding.
  • REPEAT courses are counted in the total number of credits for that semester.
  • TRANSFER credits transferred to Briarwood will count toward your maximum cumulative credit hours.
