Program
- A fast paced IV training series and preparatory review course for the practicing pharmacy technician looking to gain practical IV knowledge for career advancement and/or to pass the National Certification Exam for CPhT status.
- This series promotes the major role of the pharmacy technician within the pharmacy team and stresses the importance of excellent communication skills
- Taught by licensed pharmacists, the program consists of 10 weekly sessions with two specific goals.
1. To prepare the technician for the National Certification Exam by covering pharmacy calculations, pharmacology, medication order interpretation, compounding, federal pharmacy law, terminology and abbreviations, technology, inventory control, pharmacy administration and management. Practice tests will be taken to develop good test taking strategies and skills.
2. To offer an intensive focus on IV admixture techniques: aseptic technique, pharmacy calculations and drug compatibilities/stabilities. The hands on laboratory exercises incorporate the use of laminar and vertical flow hoods, aseptic technique in the manual manipulation of syringes and needles, sterility testing of participants’ work, overview of technology in IV compounding, and the study of safety considerations related to IV therapy.

Instructor
- Cynthia Enright, RPh, earned her B.S. degree from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. In addition to being a practicing pharmacist, she is Program Director of the Pharmacy Technician program at Briarwood College and a faculty member in the Allied Health Division.
