GENERAL STUDIES PROGRAMS
Program | Faculty | Internships | Resources | Courses
The General Studies degree fosters intellectual growth by offering the student a broad base of knowledge rather than a focused education in one specific area. Students may select from an extensive group of courses that allows them to explore several academic areas. Intellectual achievement, critical thinking and effective communication are stressed. Students gain the self-confidence and competence necessary to achieve a sound background in the liberal arts.
Students who select the General Studies programs are serious about pursuing a baccalaureate degree. The majority of the credits achieved are transferable to most four-year colleges and universities.
Associate in Applied Science Degree Programs
This program is designed for students planning to pursue a baccalaureate degree or to explore career areas while building a liberal arts base. Program graduates are awarded an Associate in Arts Degree with a concentration in an area of the student's choice including but not limited to:
- Ballet
- Fine Arts
- Biotechnology
- History
- Computer Information
- Mathematics
- English
- Pharmacy Technician
- Environmental Technology
- Psychology
- Science
Students may choose one of the programs already designed or may create their own individualized programs based upon their needs and interests.
Accreditation
The Briarwood College General Education Program is accredited by NEASC, the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is approved by the State of Connecticut Board of Governors for Higher Education.
Career Information
A graduate of the General Studies program is prepared to transfer to a four-year college or university. Briarwood College offers academic counseling to ensure the transferability of the majority of credits earned.
